Singularity
We can measure the earth with instruments, but that is not how the conscience (suneidesis)1 measures it, our highly developed form of awareness, co-conscientious awareness of ourselves and others. We measure the earth against our galaxy and see that it is a miniscule singular dot. The suneidesis2 sees a singularity of co-conscientious awareness shared by a great multitude in Name. When opposition divides and blinds us to our singularity, we cannot share in its peace, for it is a peace which is beyond our individual experience, yet it can be experienced individually when we share it in our singularity.
There is no greater peace in our suneidesis than when we are using the principle, the only way to maintain awareness of our singularity. This includes making political enemies more important in it, being willing to help them come out of the divisions the blindness of their moral standards have created in them. Loving all political sides lifts us out of the divisions of blindness while still being on one or more sides. It makes us opponents of each other and blindness the only enemy, at least from our perspective.
We lose all peace when the division between Israel and Palestine creates political turmoil in our suneidesis. We can measure their ancestral opposition to potentially be around 4,000 years old, but the suneidesis measures the ability of their opposition to use the past to divide our singularity.
Seeing the now of our singularity in both of them, though blind to it themselves, makes it easy to love them and hate their blindness and the action it engenders. We need this love for our political opponents to endure the suffering their blindness causes.
Necessary Blindness
If blindness did not restrict us with a limited mind when choosing to do something with a suneidesis of limited agapé (love), we would see ourselves correctly in the midst of our singularity, midst of everyone—and never be able to carry out such actions against others. And this would take away our free will to do so.
Blindness is thus a necessary enemy to carry out choices we make that go against our democratic, conscientious nature. However, it results in addiction to blindness, reducing our free will to do so, while compelling us to do so if we change our minds. However, the same kindness in our singularity that leads us to changing our minds leads us to the knowledge that frees us, without forcing us.
Can we save our democracy? (Index)
Suneidesis is pronounced soon-eye-day-sis. After reading the link explaining it, you will see how central it is to this teaching. Using this foreign word regularly in discussions helps us get accustomed to experiencing something new and positive in our awareness. When the word conscience is used, it will refer to the aspect of suneidesis that involves right and wrong, but this aspect cannot be separated from our co-conscientious awareness of all things.
If I understand that my awareness of something as simple as a cup includes co-conscientiousness, I do not allow myself to get blinded by the cup alone but know it as part of all creation at the hands of the Creator or the universe, depending on one’s beliefs. I can easily picture people like Jesus doing that all the time and believe that suneidesis reveals that we all have the same potential.
The repetition of suneidesis is meant to challenge you to consider this dimension in your awareness. Apologies, but it will only be a necessary annoyance until it becomes natural.
