God gave us the ability to help or hurt each other. Democracy is the form of government that empowers us to collectively help each other while at the same time allowing us to choose our own beliefs, religious or not. So, yes, no one religion should run a democracy.

However, the common belief that all citizens should share is to believe in the goodness that is in us by loving each other—including the enemies of conscience. This is caring for the least of us without being against ourselves.

This is the religion of democracy, which all of its other belief systems should actively support inside and outside of government.
